Our goals

Why we started the RESLIDES project

We see ourselves as a community of fashion-conscious people who believe that change comes with self-determination. We know that everything is in constant change and are therefore open to new ideas for living or consuming.

Every year, an estimated 22 billion pairs of shoes end up in the trash worldwide. This leads to a loss of valuable material resources and an unnecessary increase in CO2 emissions.

Overconsumption as a challenge

A growing number of people have recognized the global problem and want to consciously change their consumer behavior. However, they are not prepared to give up their freedom of self-determination as fashion changes. And that is their right!

An important factor for overconsumption is the phenomenon of fashion and its constant change. Fashionable self-determination is a valuable asset of personal freedom and the human desire to establish one's own identity through fashion is a basic need not only in our Western society.

Resource loss

Why aren't more materials from worn-out shoes recycled? The three main reasons are high product complexity, a lack of processes or product concepts, and a lack of incentives to return the shoes to suppliers. There aren't even any sensible solutions on the market for sandals!

Our RESLIDES vision: responsible consumption without compromising on fashion freedom, style and quality

In general, the longer a product is used, the better the use of resources and the smaller the carbon footprint. How can this be linked to the changes in fashion?

Adaptability is key

Our answer to this dilemma is the RESLIDES sandals. Thanks to the modular design, i.e. the ability to swap the sandal straps, we not only create customisability, but also the flexibility to respond to changing wishes in the long term and thus extend their use quite easily. Because if you can adapt your sandals to your current style, you don't need to buy new ones.

Trend-resistant design

RESLIDES sandals are style-oriented but timeless in their minimalist basic design - unisex and inspired by functionalism in outdoor fashion. Ideal for your daily urban adventures. We use technical materials that are high-quality, durable and recyclable. Design & development takes place with a lot of passion in Zurich, Switzerland.

Circular economy as a logical consequence

*The soles are manufactured in Central Europe, the buckles in Switzerland and we are still working with suppliers from Asia and Europe for the straps. The aim here is to have all components "Made in Central Europe" as soon as possible so that transport routes are kept as short as possible. In order to close the material cycles, we take back the products sold at the end of their useful life in order to make new ones - in line with the principles of Cradle-2-Cradle. Your return is essential and will be rewarded with a discount to create the necessary incentive.

How do we return the sandals to the cycle?

Most of the shoes we buy today are difficult or impossible to recycle. According to current estimates, the recycling rate for shoes worldwide is around 5%.

The challenge with recycling shoes is that they are often made of many different materials. For recycling, a shoe must be taken apart so that all components are separated from each other. Each shoe must be dismantled into its individual parts so that all leather, rubber, fabric, plastic and metal components are separated from each other. In reality, this is very difficult and costly. The standard solution is therefore to burn the shoes.

We at RESLIDES want to do things differently!

Our sandals have a modular design and consist of three different components: 1. the sole, 2. the straps and 3. the buckles. These three components are very easy to separate as they are not glued, sewn or otherwise permanently attached to each other. That's why we can simply take worn-out RESLIDES sandals apart, separate them by type and recycle them or even reuse some of them.

But how do worn-out RESLIDES get back to us?

Part of our DNA at RESLIDES is the concept of the circular economy. This means that our goal is to reuse our products at the end of their life cycle. But goals alone are worthless if there are no measures to achieve them.

In order to close the cycle, it is our wish that the worn-out RESLIDES components are sent back to us - either you send the worn-out components back to us in the shipping packaging using the return option when you receive a new order, or you order a return pack from our shop and send the components back in it so that we can recycle the individual components.

We will reward returns with a discount and plan to cover all costs incurred so that we can get as many worn RESLIDES back as possible and thus fulfil our mission of becoming a circular company.

Along the way, we will have to try out, discard and rethink many ideas. Of course, not everything will go perfectly straight away and there will always be stumbling blocks, but that should not deter us from our goal.
